Richard Gasquet vs. Steve Johnson

This is another tennis bet on American youngster Steve Johnson, this time in the third round of the 2012 US Open, where he meets Richard Gasquet from France. The 22-year-old Steve Johnson successfuly played college tennis for the University of Southern California, four-times winning the NCAA Men's Singles Championship and completing a 72-match winning streak. Then he slowly started entering professional tennis events and won a few futures events. But a big breakthrough fro Steve Johnson came this summer as he recorded his career-first ATP Tour level win in Atlanta, defeating Donald Young in three sets. Just a few weeks later Johnson won his first ATP Challenger Tour title, winning a hard court event in Aptos without loosing a single set. The fine form continues also here in New York, as Johnson defeated Ram and Gulbis in previous rounds and even added (in pair with Jack Sock) a worthy win over top seeds Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor in doubles competition. Johnson is serves well, has powerful baseline game and curently plays with a lot of confidence that together with the support of home fans should help him to play a solid match against Richard Gasquet. The 26-year-old Frenchman has always been described as one of the biggest talents of world´s tennis and the one who could replace Roger Federer at the top of this sport but he has never fulfil these expectations. In the end he was a great junior and even recorded his first ATP level win as a 15-year-old kid. Gasquet is an all-court player and known for his powerful and precise single-handed backhand, his flair and shot-making ability. He can also hit big winners with his forehand but in general this is his weakness, together with mental strenght and lack of consistency. In the end, Richard Gasquet made it only once past the fourth round of a Grand Slam event (2007 Wimbledon semifinalist), what is quite a bad achievement for someone of his talent. Richard Gasquet founds himself in fine form in last weeks, reaching the final in Toronto and losing only to Baghdatis, Djokovic and Raonic but the confident Steve Johnson may very well play a good match against him and test him. The +7.5 games handicap on Steve Johnson is good enough for a tennis bet.
