The Dallas Stars are back home after a season-high five-game road trip. They’re a little sour after losing the final game on that journey in New Jersey on Friday night – especially since they held a lead in that game and had won their previous three road games.
But they’ll have an excellent chance to get back on the winning track on Monday as the Anaheim Ducks visit. Anaheim is just one of two NHL teams who have yet to register double-digit wins and they have just three wins in their last 16 games.
On top of that, the Ducks have been brutal on the road as they’ve lost 11 straight away games and haven’t won on the road since October 27th.
Needless to say, there’s a good chance Dallas wins on Monday.

NHL Odds boards have listed the Stars the -155 NHL betting favorites with a total of 5.5. The lines remain unchanged at the moment, and with the numbers heavily favoring Dallas, I believe that we are in a great spot to take the Ducks to the sportsbooks.

Their offensive weapons are playing well right now.
Corey Perry, who led the NHL in points last season, scored two goals in Saturday night’s 5-3 loss to Winnipeg and that’s his first two-goal game this season. Ryan Getzlaf had a pair of assists against Winnipeg while Teemu Selanne did the same to stretch his point streak to eight games.
Dallas will be home for the first time after a five-game road trip that started out on the west coast in San Jose and ended up on the east coast in New Jersey. Then they had to travel back south to get home. Often times we see teams stumble in their first home game after a long road trip and if that’s the case, that might level the playing field in this spot for Anaheim.
This is a close-knit series as the Stars have won seven of the last 13 meetings, which basically means that these two teams tend to split their contests. The Stars won the first 3-1 at home on October 21st.

The Ducks goaltending has been terrible of late.
Jonas Hiller was an All-Star last season but you’d hardly recognize him these days. He’s 0-5-3 with a 3.23 GAA in his last eight road games and the 29-year-old has a 2.98 GAA so far in December. He’s allowed three goals or more in eight of his last 11 starts.
As for Dan Ellis, he’s 1-5-0 with a 2.79 GAA and he’s coming off a start where he gave up a season-high five goals to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
Mix in the fact that the Ducks are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the league and you’ve got a simple answer as to why they are 9-18-5 on the year. The Ducks have scored 75 goals, which is the second-fewest in the NHL.
Outlook & NHL Betting Prediction:
The Ducks have just two wins in eight games since Bruce Boudreau took over and the prospects of them turning it around are fairly bleak. But even so, there’s a bit of an opening for them on Monday night.
The Stars are playing their first game after a long road trip and the Stars might not have their legs back up under them. They are also playing with call-up goaltender Richard Bachman, who has played well but is coming off an outing where he was blitzed for six goals.
The payoff isn’t great for Anaheim in this spot but if there was one place to bet them, this might be it. If that scares you off, try the over as the Ducks are giving up goals at an alarming pace and eight of the last 13 meetings have gone over.
